Noticing Newbies

Actualy I'm havin'sg this problem now, I've got to a point where I want the characters to prevaricate doing what they want to do, to get events to happen that will push the story along. I need them to be delayed by several hours. No idea why they would delay that long, it makes no sense. Going round in circles trying to get the plot to run. Writing events, then deleting them, since they don't help the story. It's driving me mad
