Talk to your characters. Ask them where they want to go. Have "them" give you an interview on what is happening in their world as they see it, hear it smell it. If you generally write prose have a villain sing their favorite new song or recite one of their favorite poems. I find that helps me re engage with this personality. Naps with directed dreaming help as well.
