Hello, my user name is Shinyu and my real name is not important. I'm mainly came to this site looking for some guidance in creative writing. Current situation I currently live in Japan right now, and one of my many dreams is to do game translation here. However, to my great misfortune i never really realized how important having good English skills would be until i had already graduated high school and college. Needless to say i hated English and pretty much stayed as far away from it as i could. Now i'm faced with the challenge of trying to improve my creative writing skills enough to get a job within the next year or two. I emailed a former translator about the working conditions, and he said my Japanese was probably more than sufficient and what i really need to work on before applying is creative writing. Honestly i'm not even really sure where to start. What is creative writing? I feel like i'm a pretty creative person but i'm starting to get the feeling creative writing has more to do with vast knowledge of words and various types of writing skills, rather than just being creative. My knowledge and use of grammar is also horrible. Or maybe it's just that my step mother was an English teacher and so i always felt like i knew nothing about English. I'm sure it's just my lack of knowledge though. In short, i was hoping this was a place i could get some advice. If that advice is to write and have peers review my work, is this the place for that? Hopefully this is the site i'm in need of. I look forward to any replies. Thank you. -- Shinyu |
