Hello Timben and Welcome to WDC.

The uses for this site vary and it's largely going to be what you make of it. Some people post their writing for anyone to see and actively seek out reviews. Other people use it more as another method for storing work (one should always back up their writing after all in case an incident occurs). The site does have a variety of privacy settings for all items ranging from anyone on the internet could find it all the way to for your eyes only.

I store my novels in my portfolio, for example, but they are not viewable to anyone else as I'm working on sending queries out to agents in the near future.

Another fun feature is that many members on here run contests. Each has their own set of rules and prompts. Most require you make an item and store it in your port with some visibility level so the judge can read it. There are even site run contests that you could consider entering if any of the prompts strike your interest.

Overall, what you get out of the site will vary based on your needs, effort and what you want. I hope you enjoy your time here.
