Let's discuss poetry, With the theme of fantasy. |
I'm rather like a lot of Rudyard Kipling's work. If is probably his most famous. But my favourite of his is probably We and They. It is a really fast-paced poem with a fantastic moral. I've read it loads of time and it works best if you read it out loud with a relentless pace. Sadly, I can only find recordings where it is read at a slower pace. Still works well, but I prefer this poem fast. Wilfred Owen wrote poetry during WW1 and I'm a fan of his Dulce et decrum est. Very powerful bit of poetry there. Here is a great reading of it: [Embed For Use By Upgraded+] Of course poetry is more than just written poems. There is some great Slam Poetry on YouTube. Look up Mike Rosen's When God Happens for a really heartfelt and powerful slam poem. Neil Holborn's OCD (here Lyrics are also a type of poetry. One of my favourite songs is Lana Del Rey's Young and Beautiful (specifically the Great Gatsby version). Part of what makes this song great is the brilliant score, but the lyrics are also really good. It is full of metaphors and imagery. There is a lot to be learned from this song, I think. You should watch the the Great Gatsby just for this song. But, here is video with the lyrics: [Embed For Use By Upgraded+] Thanks, Matt ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **
