Excellent points, Matt.

I'd venture to say that Joe Abercrombie is a master of excellent prose and lousy story. Honestly, my favourite of his books (and I've read them all now) is Best Served Cold, which is a classic tale of revenge. That's it. But the writing is so wild and all over the map, I love it.

Prose is the way a story is told (language). Story is the framework that it sits upon.

That's my deep thought for the day.
