The 250,000 words was just a 1st draft. If you limit yourself when beginning a novel you get into all sorts of problems. I use the first draft to explore different ideas for plot and character. Some go nowhere, some have too much baggage, some become surplus to requirements. My great joy is editing and having so much material to edit makes the process easier for me.
