As a writer, one of my most vital tools is a large baby name book. As someone who occasionally dabbles in historical writing, historical censuses are my friends. The baby name books and the censuses both help with my fantasy names as well, since there can be some pretty unusual ones depending on the time period and location the name is originally from.
