Noticing Newbies

Hello and welcome to WDC, S B Huddleston!

Yes, I feel inspired by flash fiction. Most of the ideas I've had for novels have been extensions of short stories I've written, and I get the majority of short story ideas from prompts, like the ones for contests on this site. In fact, I've spent much of my free time today thinking about a prompt in the "The Distorted Minds Contest"  and writing a short story in response. In his book On Writing: a memoir of the craft, Stephen King recommends short story writing as the best way to improve your writing craft if you're planning on becoming a serious writer.
