First, you have to be clear about what your real goal is. If it is to be an excellent writer now, and your writing is horrible, then yes, you should give up. If your goal is to learn how to become an excellent writer, and your writing is horrible now, then you should sigh, say, "It's going to be a long hard slog to achieve my goal," and get to work, understanding it might take years. If your goal is NOT to be an excellent writer (and presumably not to be a horrible writer ![]() For instance, my goal is essentially to have fun because I enjoy creating situations and plots and so forth. So coming up with a nifty idea is more enjoyable to me than looking at one of my sentences and thinking, "Gosh, that's beautifully written." ![]() |
