The Hub

Hello and Thank You to Matt for accepting my application! I look forward to 'meeting' everyone here. I am a semi-serious writer in that I am currently working on a novel in the fantasy fiction vein, complete with time-travel, magic, and history. It is a fleshing out of a short story I wrote a long time ago inspired by a high school English assignment. It refused to stay a short story.

I have also uploaded a story to my profile, another short story I wrote a few years ago, but would like to expand to a book...only reason I havent done so yet is because I am trying to focus on finishing my first WIP. (finishing things is a real issue for me) And when I start on it, I want to avoid the mistakes/mishaps Ive made in working on the first WIP (like not plotting a beginning middle and end, for starters. Apparenlty Im not much of a pantser. Id LIKE to be pantser, but I seem to work better when I have some idea of what to work towards.)

Oh, I should also mention, Mary Thornell is my chosen pen name so if you see me slip up and sign off as Sharon, thats my real name LOL.

I cut my fantasy teeth on the Oz books, but got completely taken in by The Hobbit/LOTR. I also love Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea novels (learned later in my college years that her father was a prominent anthropologist, which made rereading her books so much richer), but I also ADORE Patrick O'Brian's "Aubreiad" series, as well as Raymond Chandler. I try to diversify as much as I can in a genre and have slowly been making my way back into sci-fi (can the Pern books be considered sci-fi?)
