A message forum discussing the craft of writing. I often repost articles for discussion.
If you look at even some of the most interesting writing competitions here, they often only get 1 or 2 entries. That's not always the case, of course, but it often is (unfortunately it's the nature of the beast).
Bribery often isn't the best course - I think having an "in" to a proactive network is.
I have tried bribery with my own big competitons - offering publication in an ebook, multiple merit badges for 1 win, large GPs etc, etc. Some months I would get multiple entries, some months I would get none. All for the same effort on my part.
My favourite writing competition has been "Invalid Item" by A Guest Visitor . It's esoteric and seemingly unlinked month by month but it's fun and it's lets people have carte blanche. I don't know if it's the best on WDC but it's been the most fun contest I've entered.
I also like, but have never entered (yet) "WEIRD TALES CONTEST " by Beacon - Light 4ever . Groovy covers, imaginative prompts (by virtue of those groovy covers), great entries. One day I will enter.
My most often entered competition would be the "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" by Arakun the Twisted Raccoon and it has become my go-to writing block/writing inspiration source.
