It's interesting that you called it a craft, because it does depend on what you call it. The three main choices are
an art
a craft
a pastime
and it matters which you consider it. Each one would call for a different approach and make different requirements of you. Maybe there should be a fourth one, an "occupation", but I kind of thought that might fit under "craft".
