I realize this is an old topic but I never saw it before. Interesting take on the "buying applause" idea.

Racing radio controlled model cars is a hobby. People spend large sums of money on cars and accessories for the cars. Why? Because it's fun and they enjoy doing it.

Writing is a hobby for me (or was until my health got poor and stamina faded away, but I still write little things) so I don't mind spending money on it. I kept upgrading my membership simply to have more room in my port and to be able to use images and books and web pages in my port.

The idea that I would do it for applause is amusing. I don't even care about reviews all that much although it is fun to get them.
