For example, if the protagonist is a teenage girl who wants to go out with her friends, her antagonist could be her mom who won't allow her to go. If you're writing a romance, your two lead characters could be each others antagonists as they each stand in the other's way of reaching their goals. The antagonist is someone who pokes at the protagonist. Someone who makes them work for what they want.
