To add to the response, there are also different ranges in the longer stories. The three big areas commonly known are novelette, novella and novel. There are some locations which vary on word count length requirement but there is a general range for them. Novelettes are commonly around 8,000 to about 18,000. They are also sometimes just referred to as longer short stories by some. Novellas then would be about 18,000 (though that start point depends on location) to the shorter end of novels that is around 50,000 words ish. However, in many genres and age ranges the 50k is too short of a novel.

That is why it's always recommended when considering to submit somewhere to make sure you read the submission guides as they will say exactly what they are will to accept length wise.
