The rest of the town doesn't know about their prepping. It's a secret. No one knows where their underground compound is. She wants to live a quiet life in her house, gardening, loves her students and teaching and doesn't believe Marshal law is a reality that will ever happen.

Martial law is where FEMA takes over government control. There is a curfew instituted. Fema camps are turned into prison camps. There is population control. The sick and elderly are put to death. All transportation, fuel, food, vehicles, and transportation is under their control. There is actually a lot involved that won't fit here. LOL.
