Rondeau

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length).

My husband you are very dear,
I love you more each passing year.
You mean the whole wide world to me,
Your love has helped to set me free.
You love me back I feel it, it’s clear.

You never look at me with a sneer.
I have never, with you, felt fear.
I know we will always help you see,
My husband you are very dear.


With you I have never had to shed a tear,
I love you and our puppy who is dear.
We had no kids but you still love me,
And I know I will always love thee.
I see you every day on the peer.
My husband you are very dear.
