A warm welcome to our newbies; come meet new and not-so-new members of Writing.Com! |
Hello, community: I guess this is the obligatory self-introduction. I joined this site recently, where I'm hoping to do some light writing for everybody's benefit. The topic of choice would be various adventures from my fictional world. Don't get too excited, there is no magic there. I'm trying to get it as realistic as possible. My method of expressing this world is through maps. I started on my current sub-project (a large city, which happens to be the provincial capital) two years ago. The city needed context, so I zoomed out. That map needed to be moved, so I needed to see what lies beyond the edge of the map. That resulted in another zoom out. I'm busy with a regional map 1600km (east-west) by 1120km (north-south). For our cartographers, that's a scale of 1:4,000,000 on A3 paper. It covers some interesting landscapes which I hope to reveal in upcoming posts. The maps are grouped by their era. Currently, I'm in the 1930s. Once the 1930 maps get completed, I'll ''upgrade" them to the year 1935. I then add or change elements of the map. This gives me a sort of a sense of history. So, I hope that you'll enjoy the adventures, and the weird spellings of placenames, using all the available characters on the keyboard. |
