It's very bizzarre - well my Mum's friend, he complained loads about it! I think smoke is an unpleasant smell (well, if you don't smoke...) so maybe this is why it would be a smell that would affect someone in this way...

It is really interesting that you have suffered from this too, though I am sorry you have as obviously it is not something pleasant!!
