Most contests here are member-run rather than site-run. There is no "check this box" on items or automated method to submit them to contests.
Each member who runs a contest determines how to submit to it. Directions are on the contest page. Usually submission happens on the same page as the directions -- such as by forum post in a Forum item or by survey submission in a survey item. Questions should be directed to the contest owner or whoever is designated to answer questions in the contest directions, and by using the method designated in the contest directions.
To post anything on the site, you have to have an account and be logged in. That's all that's required technologically. Follow the directions on the contest page for specific entry requirements.
