Hi, Stellar Empress!
As for when I write, I don't really have an answer to that. I just write whenever the mood strikes me, but part of that is because I don't really have a set schedule. Being unemployed does that to a fellow, so if I'm not pounding the pavement looking for work, I write when I feel like it or the mood strikes me.
But as to your comment about forgetting to jot ideas down in the middle of the night, I learned a LONG TIME AGO to keep a pen and a piece of paper next to my bed! Mainly because like you, I also got tired of kicking myself in the a** for thinking I'd remember them!
That's a must for writers! Hell, we should probably keep a pen and paper handy when we take showers! *Laugh*
