I've followed Shawn Coyne and Tim Grahl for years. They've put out more than 160 podcasts, and I have listened to them multiple times traveling to and from work. Their podcast is brilliant in that they have Tim write a novel and Shawn critiques it using his Story Grid Principles. And Shawn doesn't pull any punches. I've followed along with the development of the novel and can't wait until it is published. As for their website, that's how I found them. The original website was awesome and just about everything that is in the book The Story Grid, was available on the site. I eventually bought the book to have all of the information easily available. Then the website changed. It is not my favorite. Nor is it updated by Shawn. His specially trained editors post often and expand upon things that he talks about in his book. The Editors have a podcast called The Editor's Roundtable. It is really hit or miss (mostly hits) and the misses are generally from people on the podcast that should never have anything to do with broadcasting. I'll be honest, I probably would not have been interested in the podcast or bought the book if I had found the website they have today. Or, the original website was just that much better. I don't know. Anyway, I would recommend Shawn's work without reservation. Heck, If any of the 'Please Reviews' that I was interested in weren't private, I'd use the Story Grid principles in critiquing. That's actually how I found your post--looking for info on why so many of the Static items are still marked as private. Oh well. Cheers. |
