Someone once said of self-publishing that when you push the 'publish' button you are no longer an author; you are now a bookseller.
When you think of the hundreds of books that arrive in newsletters from sources such as Bookbub, the information is overwhelming. Most readers will do what I do: skim through the list spending less than a second on each. If the cover design and blurb do not snag attention, your work will be overlooked. Getting your story to stand out from the rest is, in my opinion, the biggest challenge from self-publishers.
The pros of self-publishing are that if your first efforts attract no clicks (Amazon marketing) you can repackage the design and hope for better.
