Thank you, northernwrites. Unfortunately, the local library isn't really an option for me since I live in Denmark, Europe, so while there probably is a small English department is not going to include magazines.

The "best of" collections are a good idea. It has helped me a lot figuring out which SFF magazines cater to my taste and which don't. Though, I didn't have the best of luck when I tried a Norton Anthology.

I hadn't really considered the submissions pages, mostly because my experience from SFF magazines is that the editors are terrible at explaining what kind of stories they like, and generally what they want is good stories. But I'll give it a go.
