Unfortunately it's not a perfect system and our converter is in no way going to be able to duplicate all the complexities of footnotes and some of the other more complex elements provided by MS Word. Our system will make it's best guess on how to convert that to WritingML, as close as possible. It being a word processor, Word offers far more formatting options than we do here on Writing.Com.

Your best option may be to work with the simple option and correct some of the formatting issues manually.
