2nd Chance 300 words
I was standing in the hardware isle of my local Home Center when I heard a very sweet voice say, “Can I help you?” I turned to the direction of the inquisitor and there she was, icy blue eyes set on high large round cheek bones, thin pale lips below a long thin nose and fair, milk white skin, pure, sterile and natural, all framed by her light blonde closely cropped hair that rested lightly on her shoulders.
“No, I think I’m good, but thank you.” And as the words left my lips, I wanted to reach for them but it was too late. I will never get them back; she didn’t leave. I could still feel her presence.
Ha-ha. she chuckled, “Are you sure?”
Oh yes, a second chance. I had to think quickly. The first thing I could think of were two by fours. “Where are your two by fours?”
That sounded so bad. It was obvious that I just made that up in order to have a conversation with her and I could feel the blood flush my face red.
“Haha No problem. Follow me.” She led me across the center isle and we approached the other end of the store. Overhead is a sign, moldings, millwork, lumber. This is it were here.
“Okay, here you go. “she said and when she smiled, her white teeth were exposed enhancing her perfect beauty.
“Thanks” I said and I started shuffling the boards around, eyeing them up for straightness and thinking, what am I going to do now. She’s walking away and I have no use for these things. Then she came back “ Do you want me to help you load them?”
This time she had a blush and that’s they day and the way I met my wife.
