Daily Flash Fiction Challenge

         Don’t try and find me! You won’t. Not because I am hidden, because I will be in plain sight. You just won’t see me coming. I will be the one you look away from in disgust, or the thief you just miss. I will be the shadow crossing the face of the clock in the square. My footsteps will thunder but you will not hear me coming. I am the man in the cloak. I am the breeze in the trees.
         Don’t try and find me. Futility served on silver platters is your reward if you try. My laugh will send shivers through you, but you will not follow it. The creaking of the swings in the park will announce my passage. I am the wind, the rain, the blizzards, the heatwaves. Like time, I stalk you.
         Don’t try and find me. There is no need. The effort is moot. Searching for me wastes what time you have remaining. I know the count of heartbeats you have left. I have seen your every path. I will not cross it until I am ready.
Don’t try and find me. I will find you. You cannot run. You cannot hide. There is no escape. I am not taxes; they can be cheated. I am no fool to be confused. I am death, and you are mine!
