Daily Flash Fiction Challenge

Captain, I ve just received word that we are to retreat and move back to the other side of the border.
“You have got the be joking. We can still win this.”
They were over four thousand strong , they had weapons that far exceeded our capabilities, they had fresh supplies, they were disciplined, they were trained but we had resolve. The Captain grabbed the phone from my case and called in, “ This is Captain Frank Hunt, do you read me?”
He released the call button and through the static a voice returned “Go ahead Captain.”
“What’s the reason for our retreat?”
“ You cannot beat them Captain, they have you outnumbered, they have fresh troops and they are well armed, they will to defeat you.”
“They don’t know they have us outnumbered and that wont last once we start taking them on. We will win this. We’ve fought worse. I’m begging you to let us proceed.”
“ Captain, its your call but their lives are in your hands.”
Captain Hunt dropped the phone and turned to his men preparing to make the call to advance. He scanned the faces, weary, dirty, unshaven and haggard from a long and arduous campaign. A campaign where they pulled together, conquered and overcame tremendous odds. Through it all he got to know each troop personally, their strengths, their weaknesses, their families and their extreme courage under fire. He knew that they were a special group and they would go to war no matter what the odds were against them.
He raised his hand to his mouth and shouted out the order, “ Men, the enemy stands before us, and there is no better group of fighters anywhere in the entire world, but even we cannot win this one and we must retreat.”
