My Life’s Progress

as i contemplate my fate
this late in my life
the hour is getting late
as I confront the end of life

I think back
upon the progress
I have made
in this life

thinking of all
that i have done
and things undone

of plans made
and promises kept
and visions of my past
haunting me still

and I know
that I have made progress
towards achieving the goal
of my life

and i think back
to the love of my life
the women who became my wife
knowing again and again

that all that i am
all that I ever was
all the progress in my life
was due to her

and I thank the gods
for bringing us together
so many years ago

and realize yet again
that I have achieved
the progress of my life
the promise of my life

and so I end my life
confident as I wait
for my fate
on this cosmic date
