Dumb Question - 3rd POV

"His hubcap just flew off as he was driving toward me."

Can I say this in 3rd, - driving toward me ?

I am not part of the story - I am not a character in the story.
I am kind of thinking, if I say this it will make me a spectator
character in the story. Not what I want ...


Any thoughts ???
