I think the right move if you put a mask with no band on a golem is that it goes catatonic. It makes sense from a scientific standpoint too.

The way memories are stored are by running electricity through pathways between neurons in the brain a certain way. So say for example, the memory for your name was created by traveling across neurons A, B, C in that order. Whenever it needs to remember your name again, it travels across those same neurons in that same order. That also applies to functions like walking or opening your eyes. The only reason a non-banded mask works on a regular person is because the regular person already had those neuron patterns stored. A golem would not have any of those pre-made patterns and thus the catatonia.
