I echo Robert's words. Length doesn't matter, quality does. Show, don't tell. I'm a speed reader, but as a judge, if I have to read 5,000 really boring words, it's on to the next one. You better give me the best 5,000 words ever. And every one of those words had better grab me by the throat and slap me around a bit. I'll definitely remember writing like that. Can't wait to read what you write.
