But does the old spell even make a paste?

If you read the description literally, it only says that if you put the stuff into the mask and light a fire, it changes the interior of the mask. It says nothing about making a paste that then has to be spread around inside the mask.

So now I'm thinking that the characters wouldn't even be able to make that shift from "golemize one mask" to "make a paste that can golemize a batch." Because it looks like the spell doesn't allow for that.
