That's the problem with history though - you always have to dig a little further back to explain things: Like, well Charles was big on the divine right of kings and that was a cause for the English Civil War. But that was because James was big on the divine right of kings too, Charles just wasn't as clever at it. But that was because Scotland had just had a run of three infant monarchs in a row, drastically shifting the balance of the power in the country towards a contractual view of monarchy and James wanted to kick back, especially after he had the throne of England to help out.
