One of the most amazing bits of knowledge I've learned online is about how to give to those in need without creating a dependence on receiving it. The article explained how America's mass donations of clothing to the impoverished in parts of African caused increased poverty instead of helping people get out of it.
Religious leaders took note. One had the idea of sending sewing machines and supplies instead. Families were taught to make their own clothes and sell them to others. What a change. Instead of dependency, pride, self worth and increased economic opportunity occurred.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the same thing could happen with homes for those who can't afford them? How about homes that don't pollute our environment?
