Hi, It sounds to me as if your MC is struggling with "loss of self" by accepting his heritage and perhaps the "tribal ways" he risks losing his own identity as a person and becomes one of "them" This would go against everything he has believed since he was a child. Perhaps in the end by becoming one of "them" he does not lose his self, but actually finds himself.
