Good and True


I’m grateful for all the dogs
that have been part of my life,
dogs who have given their hearts
to me without reservation, dogs
with loving eyes, noble spirits.

Dogs big and small, -- all guileless,
all forgiving, all ready for adventure.
They consoled me in times of sadness,
celebrated with me in times of joy,
waited for me with wagging tails
and honest, trusting faces.

Those dogs were my partners,
always dependable friends,
good and true.
