I would say, in order for it to count for this challenge you need to read a good portion of the book. Otherwise, someone could just read the first three chapters of every book and say they have completed everything. But, if it’s something you don’t want to continue reading, maybe make that decision early on in the book so you can just discount it and read something else instead. I did that with a couple of books last year, but on the whole, I persevered with most of them just because I wanted to try different genres. Sometimes, though, it’s just not worth losing part of your life to them!
