Congratulations on starting the new novel. I understand how your editing issue would be frustrating.
I tried it out, and I can't replicate this in regular editing mode, so I have a few questions that might help anyone reading this and wanting to help.
When you say you go back to reread your changes, to you mean in the editing window (showing all the formatting stuff) or the posted static item (not showing any formatting markup stuff)?
Same question for 'haven't left the page yet'.
Are you using two open WdC pages - one you're editing in, and one where you're looking at the finished item?
