The Contest Challenge

Again, I apologize for not catching up on the forum sooner. It's been a really horrible semester! To give you some perspective, I'm currently on the other side of the continent in Alabama instead of California, taking care of a sick friend who just had surgery to try to remove her stage 4 cancer, but they said they couldn't so they just closed her back up. It's everywhere. She found out the day before Thanksgiving. So, the perspective? Last night while I was doing dishes for her (because she can't even stand up without help right now, though she can walk, so that's something, but she needs help with dressing, bathing, and pretty much most other activities) she commented last night on how I've been smiling and seem a lot happier than I was before school ended. I told her I was. That doing her laundry (which is daily as it's uterine cancer so she sits on big incontinence pads they use for bedwetting kids and older adults because she's constantly leaking blood and some sort of disgusting, stinky fluid from the cancer) and fixing her meals, though I hate to cook, and dealing with her #$&*@! ex-husband is WAY better than everything I was dealing with last semester.

Yeah, it's horrible to sit and watch her slowly dying because surgery couldn't do anything and the doctor doesn't want to give her treatments because she's uninsured and can't pay, but that's STILL better than last semester. Side note: She's planning to move to California to become a resident so she can get MediCal, the CA version of Medicare that she should qualify for so she can have insurance and get treatment. I don't think it will matter since it's already all in her lungs and she's had to have 2 bags of replacement blood and had a seizure in the hospital so bad that she stopped breathing and woke up to them bagging her, but miracles happen. We'll have to see...

Anyway, yeah, that's some perspective as to how badly my semester went. This is WAY better.
