Strangely enough, the story's idea of transformation didn't match, but instead overlapped, with some of my interests, but I stayed nonetheless because of the way the stories were written. It's very rare for me to feel interested, let alone involved, in a written story but it grew up on me. (And eventually, I found something within the story that directly matched the same interests I was looking for in the subreddit, though I wouldn't use that.)
So, in short: checked for the pitch, stayed for the story.
