You can also always make an emdash on a Mac by pressing the option key and the hyphen key at the same time. Because I'm paranoid and don't trust word processors (or my memory) to get it right. And hey, I received a review recently telling me there shouldn't be space between text and emdashes: What she really needed–and wanted–was to run away. But stevengepp, you left spaces in your example of emdash use – so I'm guessing there's  disagreement in the writing/publishing world about this. Sorry if that wasn't proper use of one in my previous sentence. Ah, well.  |
