Thanks for the suggestions! I actually had started with the idea that maybe he was stopped from committing suicide, but then decided he's not that type of guy. He's more one to self-sabotage, I think.

The current guide on his journey is the unborn spirit of the baby the woman he's looking for is pregnant with. *Bigsmile*
