Isn't there a branch that deals with a trading company tied to the Keyserlings and Fane that was designed as a Brotherhood of Baphomet? The chapters, IIRC, deal with a diary or a book that details the history of the company that - allegedly - ended up becoming Fane. In any case, the relation of Fane to the Brotherhood is akin to a shell company hitting big and trying to disassociate from its founder. Maybe one or two members of the Brotherhood may be part of Fane's directive, but as a whole they're their own thing. (Particularly as most of Fane, for all intents and purposes, don't believe in magic, but rather in scientific advancements that are the closest thing to; only the higher-ups believe that something like magic exists, but still deal with it in a scientific bent.) Fane would love to strip away the belief requirement of the Brotherhood, for one. Which is why I treat them as different groups - their reach, purpose and methodology are distant and growing ever distant. |
