Storm Machine has a good point. Try reaching out to historians and archivists and even libraries in the towns you are interested in to see what else they might have about the area. Also, ghost towns that are now tourist destinations are likely (I would think) to know a bit about the history of the area. I think it's cool that you're trying to go so real, but am glad I don't have to feel obligated to that in my sci-fi western. *Laugh*
