The two young men sat at the kitchen table in the typically Australian house, utilitarian but cozy. "I figured it out, mate. You left that deadly eastern brown snake in the bathroom, and you wedged a wooden doorstop under the bathroom door to keep Gerald inside," Mike told Tom. "Why, would I do that?" Tom asked, his voice shaking. "He knew about the money you stole, and he was going to turn you in," Mike answered. "Well, if I was ruthless enough to kill Gerald, don't you think I would be ruthless enough to kill you?" Tom asked. "Not if I killed you first. I've got the drop on you. Give me the account number of that money in the bank," Mike responded as he pulled a .357 magnum out of his coat pocket. "Now listen, Mike. I know you have me cornered, but you'll never get that money if you kill me," Tom responded. "I might shoot you in the foot. I know ways to make people tell me what I want know." Mike answered. "No! Don't do that. I'll share the money with you," Tom reacted. "Gerald offered to share the money with you, didn't he?" Mike queried. "Yes." "And you killed him." "Are you going to kill me?" Tom asked "Not immediately, mate. First we're going on a trip," Mike answered. "Why?" "You'll find out." ....... ........ As they drove into The Outback Mike realized he was going to get the million and a half dollars Tom had stolen from Gerald. Suddenly flashing red lights appeared in his mirror. He pulled over. "Boys, I'm not going to arrest you. If you don't give me that money bundled in your trunk I'll kill you. Now get out and open up your trunk. I want that money," Officer Britson said. |
