If he hasn't shown serious emotional depth before, going destructive feels like a jump.

I can see hom upping his game to prove his love and trying to win her back. Maybe recruit the daughter to help.

But for her to divorce him out of the blue without discussion feels cold, and it shows her love is not pure - she wants it on her terms.

Anyway, that's how I read the situation.
