Ah. It seems like your view lines up more with the film critics' picks, and I've noticed that audiences generally prefer the opposite of what critics like. And in many cases, those in TV/movies are inclined to give the majority of people what they want. It's not great, but changing public taste is something that's incredibly difficult to do on purpose.
