I served on a grand jury for a year. This is not as bad as it sounds; it involved a single day every two weeks or so, though there were skip weeks and most of the days were half-days. It was enlightening, but part of the deal is you don't talk about specifics.
I've also been called for petit jury service once (that's the ordinary trial jury that people think of when they think "jury duty"). But I ended up not being selected.
I'd never try to get out of jury duty. I consider it a civic duty.
